Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

One of the better-known, formalized programs for learning about stress is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). This initiative was designed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The goal of this initiative is to teach participants to better control and lower stress, which many studies have shown will positively improve health status and well-being.

Now being offered at Delray Community Wellness Center, MBSR instructor Brett Ferrigan and his team, use the “gentleness and accuracy of mindfulness practices” to guide participants in a 6-week exploration of both stress and relaxation. The MBSR program is for people who will commit to mindfulness practice six days a week for 6 weeks.

Sage-ing Wisdom Circle

An award-winning program that teaches practical skills in leading and supporting groups to create dynamic future-focused conversations Sage-ing’s goal is to help “you achieve your best self as you age.” Delray Community Wellness Center is proud to serve as one of the few organizations within south Palm Beach County that offers a Sage-ing Wisdom Circle.

What is Sage-ing®?

Sage-ing is a wisdom-and contribution-based approach to focusing on the importance of the stories, experiences, and lessons accumulated throughout the journey of our lives. Sage-ing evolved from Native American traditions that value respect and experience, teaching members of a community how to cultivate their wisdom and pass it on to future generations.

Within Sage-ing are “Sag-ing Circles.”  Sage-ing® Circles provide a welcoming medium for gratifying and powerful conversations about life. Issues discussed may be personal, revolve around family, community, and also touch on universal topics – social, economic, or political. Powerful dialogue is interspersed with wisdom, maturity, and compassion.

Sage-ing principles are non-denominational.

Military Life

"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." – Joseph Campbell

Soldiers duties often take them into harm’s way and some are physically injured. Many more suffer more invisible wounds in their brains and souls, so much that an average of 22 a day are committing suicide. Military Life works with everyone it can to help these soldiers to find renewed hope and faith.

Delray Community Wellness Center is honored to host Military Life, which is a purposeful outreach program for active and retired military and their families. Military Life brings healing, friendship, hope and faith to our US soldiers and their families. It is based on the principle that the most important foundation in life is to be as physically healthy as possible, and to have an active and ongoing relationship with God.

The aim of this initiative is to provide resources and an atmosphere in which people can make intelligent decisions for themselves. Military Chaplains and local congregations can be a valuable resource for spiritual counsel but few churches or synagogues are equipped to respond to military issues.

Military Life is open to anyone regardless of race, religion, background, or gender. Through working directly with individuals and other organizations, Military Life leaders build personal relationships offering friendship with active or retired military and their families. Military Life creates opportunities to introduce individuals to a life-long relationship with God, and to others seeking to grow in their relationship with God. This is always offered without coercion or pressure.
